Abstract

The Composite Map of United States Land Surveyor’s Original Plats and Field Notes collection consists of 23 maps of different areas of Minnesota. These maps indicate natural features such as prairie, marsh, lakes, forests, and artificial features including trails, roads, Native American villages, and more. These maps were prepared from surveys taken between 1850 and 1907.

Andersen to office of governor of State of Minnesota collection contains a twenty-volume transcript of the proceedings for the hearing held in Ramsey County District Court concerning the contested election. The collection consists of photographs, yearbooks, newspaper extracts, and miscellaneous documents ranging from 1908 through 1919. The items come from Pearl Cordon William Coon, who was a student and athlete at Mankato State Normal School from 1905-1909. He later returned to the Normal School and taught Manual Arts from 1914-1917 before joining the military during World War I.

Abstract

The letter contained in this collection was written by Herman Czeikowitz (also known as Henry Harmon) to his sister Mathilda Czeikowitz in 1940. It is Mr. Czeikowitz's memories of the 1872 Sioux attack on New Ulm. The letter contains his recollections of the attack on his home in New Ulm, the gathering of the women and children, the people of New Ulm's intense fear that the Indians would start the prairie grasses on fire, and the additional things his father had told him about the attack.
