Abstract

The Dr. John J. Janc collection consists of an audiocassette tape, a CD duplicate of the audiocassette, and transcript for an oral history interview conducted between Janc and Tim Haen during the fall of 1987. Janc began his teaching career at Durand, Wisconsin in 1966. Following his experiences in the Durand school system, Janc traveled to France and eventually earned doctorate degrees in both France and at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Janc became an assistant professor at Mankato State University in 1979 and by the time of the interview had been promoted to the position of associate professor. In the interview, Janc discussed his educational background, pedagogical changes in the teaching of foreign languages, and his experiences as a French teacher. While he mentioned his teaching duties at the secondary level, he focused mainly on his experiences at the university level.

This oral history interview was conducted as a requirement for the graduate level Educational Foundations course entitled History of Education in American Culture at Mankato State University in Mankato, Minnesota.
