Abstract

This collection consists of items relating to Jessie Belle Irving and her family. Irving was a long-time elementary school teacher in Mankato, Minnesota, and an active member of many social and professional groups. Included in the collection are photocopies of her family record, photocopies of obituaries of her family members, photographs of Irving, and newspaper clippings about her and her father William Irving. Another part of the collection contains items pertaining to Irving's time at Mankato Normal School, which includes the class of 1903 commencement announcement and newspaper clippings about the commencement, and her diploma from the Normal School. A paper written by Irving in 1928 about teaching reading to young children is also included.

Biographical / Historical

Jessie Belle Irving was bom May 26, 1881. She attended the Mankato Normal School, and graduated in 1903. Irving was an elementary school teacher in Mankato from 1903 to 1946. She was an active member of the Minnesota Educational Association and the National Retired Teachers Association. Jessie Belle Irving died in 1964.
