Abstract

The Republican Women of Mankato collection mainly deals with the Republican clubs and individuals in the Mankato area. The majority of this collection deals with the Republican Party in Minnesota, and the Mankato and Blue Earth County area more specifically, but there is a considerable amount of documents involving the party on the national level. The collection contains newsletters, pamphlets, letters, and party policy papers.

Abstract

This collection consists of items from the Riverbend Association, a citizens group that was concerned with plans to build a reservoir on the Blue Earth River to control flooding. Included in the collection are the group’s policy statement, information released by the Corps of Engineers about the proposed reservoir, photocopies of newspaper articles about the Riverbend Association or the reservoir proposal, and a map of the proposed Blue Earth River Reservoir.

Most of the letters came from Lavina Wood’s brothers and sisters, and date from 1851 to the early 1900s. The letters from 1901 to 1905, which were written by Mary Martin Rogers, Lavina’s sister, are original. Abstract

This collection consists of a typescript written by Dr. T. R. Schaffler, of Mankato, Minnesota. In the text, Schaffler discusses the integration of Lebanese Americans into the Mankato community. He traces the history of Lebanese Americans in that area from 1890 until about 1955. Schaffler discusses the problems that the Lebanese faced upon reaching Mankato and changes that took occurred from generation to generation in the United States.

This collection consists of a paper written by Mrs. Minnie Scherer, of Lake Crystal, about the history of Mankato. The paper is a combination of personal reminiscences and research done at the Blue Earth County Historical Society and in local newspapers. It discusses the history of Mankato from 1852 until about 1905. This paper was the basis of several speeches given by Mrs. Scherer to local women's organizations.
