Abstract

This collection consists of an audiocassette, a CD duplicate of the audiocassette, and a transcript of an interview conducted with Laurence W. Murphy of Austin, Minnesota. He worked for the Hormel Company in Austin from 1923 until 1964, and this interview focuses on his employment there. Murphy was a division superintendent with Hormel, and he discusses his work at Hormel, and the strike of 1933 from a management point of view. The interview was conducted by Mrs. lone Louk, as part of a project focusing on the 1933 Hormel employees' strike.

Biographical / Historical

Laurence W. Murphy was bom on November 23, 1899 in Canton, Illinois. He went to work for the Hormel Company in Austin in 1923. He became a foreman in 1933, a division superintendent in 1943, and from 1956 until 1964 he worked in development. Murphy died in April 1989.
