Abstract

The Alva Brooks Swain collection contains a variety of items related to the lives of Swain and his family members. Items included in the collection are a photograph album of Mankato State Normal School students and faculty in 1873, Anna Warner’s school notebook, newspaper clippings from the Mankato Weekly Review and other papers, a teaching certificate, and a graduation commencement bulletin from Mankato State Normal School in 1873.

The Mankato News collection contains both correspondence concerning the newspaper, 1932 - 1965, and miscellaneous issues of the newspaper itself, 1920 - 1958. The newspaper's information covered issues related to the Mankato area. Furthermore, the paper contained numerous articles about Minnesota State Senator Val Imm who coincidently served as the paper's publisher, editor, and owner between 1927 and 1958.

Abstract

This collection consists of a photocopy of a 1937 issue of The Tap, which was the newsletter of the Mankato Brewing Company of Mankato, Minnesota. This issue contains a historical sketch of the brewery, which was founded in 1856. Also included in this issue are stories of taverns that sold Kato beer, and recipes for food items containing Kato beer.

Abstract

This collection consists of a photocopy of a paper written by R. H. Werges, formerly of Gaylord, Minnesota. This paper was written for presentation during the American Bicentennial in 1976. In the paper, Werges describes some early hunting experiences of his on the various lakes surrounding Gaylord, including Lake Titloe, Altono’s Lake, and Swan Lake. Werges talks about the people he hunted with and hunting rabbits, grouse, ducks, and other prairie birds.
