The Alva Brooks Swain collection contains a variety of items related to the lives of Swain and his family members. This collection consists of a photocopy of a 1937 issue of The Tap, which was the newsletter of the Mankato Brewing Company of Mankato, Minnesota. This issue contains a historical sketch of the brewery, which was founded in 1856. Also included in this issue are stories of taverns that sold Kato beer, and recipes for food items containing Kato beer.

This collection consists of a photocopy of a paper written by R. H. Werges, formerly of Gaylord, Minnesota. This paper was written for presentation during the American Bicentennial in 1976. In the paper, Werges describes some early hunting experiences of his on the various lakes surrounding Gaylord, including Lake Titloe, Altono’s Lake, and Swan Lake. Werges talks about the people he hunted with and hunting rabbits, grouse, ducks, and other prairie birds.
