Czeikowitz, Herman (1858 - 1946). Letter, 1940
The letter contained in this collection was written by Herman Czeikowitz (also known as Henry Harmon) to his sister Mathilda Czeikowitz in 1940. It is Mr. Czeikowitz's memories of the 1872 Sioux attack on New Ulm. The letter contains his recollections of the attack on his home in New Ulm, the gathering of the women and children, the people of New Ulm's intense fear that the Indians would start the prairie grasses on fire, and the additional things his father had told him about the attack.
