The Mary J. Simonson papers collection consists of 14 interview transcripts that were used by Simonson to write her thesis, “The History of Women’s Intercollegiate Athletics at Mankato State University, 1964-1983.” She interviewed the following people: Dr. Viola Holbrook, Pat Hale, Georgene Brock, Dr. Jane Roberts, Mary Willerscheidt, Rosie Stallman, Dr. Jerry Salek, Lois Mussett, Phil Rhoade, Dr. Ruth Schellberg, Evie Hawkins-Erdman, Dr. Gerald Bodelson, and Peggy Hayes.

All of the transcripts are in one folder, so an inventory of the transcripts is not necessary.

Biographical / Historical

According to the abstract of Simonson’s thesis, the purpose of her study was to present a historical account of the development of women’s intercollegiate athletics at Mankato State University between the years of 1964 and 1983. Much of the primary source material for this thesis consisted of interviews with different people related with the development and continuation of women’s intercollegiate athletics.
