The Gretchen S. Morris collection consists of her master thesis that Morris wrote at the University of Michigan, regarding the development of a faculty handbook at Mankato State Teachers College in 1951. The thesis contains the handbook in the second part.

Biographical / Historical

Gretchen Morris was born in Minnesota in 1901. She joined the staff at Mankato State Teachers College as an accountant for the business office, and was promoted to the president’s office four years later. She assisted Presidents C. L. Crawford and James Nickerson. While at Mankato State Teachers College, she also enrolled as a student and she graduated in 1949. She then enrolled at the University of Michigan where she received her master’s degree. During her time at Mankato State College Morris worked hard on the university status for the campus and the research she did led to legislative attempts to get the university status for Mankato State College. Gretchen retired in 1969, after doctors orders and moved to Florida. Gretchen Morris died on February 27, 1986 at her home in Florida.
