Biographical / Historical
The Literary Club of Mankato was organized on March 17, 1947, in Mankato, Minnesota. At its founding, the organization consisted of three officers and eleven members. According to the club's constitution, meetings were held every other Thursday beginning in October and continuing through the first meeting in May. During the 1958–1959 program year, the meeting schedule changed to the first and third Tuesdays of each month.
By 2005, declining health among several members resulted in fewer regular meetings, with members instead gathering informally for coffee. On December 6, 2005, six members met at the Mankato Lutheran Home and voted to dissolve the organization. The remaining treasury balance of $22.15 was donated to the Mankato Symphony, and the club's records were donated to the Southern Minnesota Historical Center at Minnesota State University, Mankato.
