Biographical / Historical

Elvira Clark Gould was born on August 18, 1868 to William Wallace Clark and Martha Klatte Clark in Rapidan, Minnesota. The family moved to Mankato prior to 1880 where William was a carpenter and they resided there for several years. Elvira attended the Mankato Normal School where she graduated from the Advanced Course in May 1886. At least one, possibly two, or her sisters also attended the Normal School. Elvira then taught in St. Clair for three... months and Brainerd for 18 months. She married Alfred Gould on June 13, 1889 and they had three children. They moved to Zumbro Falls where Gould served as a Methodist Minister and school teacher.

The Elvira Clark Gould photograph collection consists of 28 portrait photographs of Mankato residents from 1880-1890 and 1886 Mankato Normal School graduates.
