Biographical / Historical

Mankato State University Librarian Timothy J. Smith (Tim) began working in the Memorial Library in 1987. While employed in the library, he began working on a Master of Arts in History which he didn’t complete due to his death in 1999. His advisor, Dr. William Lass, kept his unfinished thesis which he donated to the University Archives in 2019.

Abstract

The collection consists of Timothy J. Smith’s obituary and several copies of his unfinished thesis, Early Nineteenth Century Land and Timber Issues Between the Mdewakanton Dakota, Ojibwa, and Americans in the Upper Midwest Mississippi Valley Region.
