Scope and Contents

The collection records “Children of School Age” that lived in school districts in Blue Earth County. Each census record contains information regarding the school children who lived in each district, their hometown and the legal name of at least one of their parents/guardians. Occasionally some basic attendance information is recorded to the side of the child’s name. At the end of each year, there are a series of reports that go into greater detail on attendance and class performance by district, as well as some financial information. The end of the collection features a series of maps that outline school districts and the surrounding areas.

The information further documents the makeup of the local school districts before school reorganization and consolidation.

Abstract

The Blue Earth County Schools collection contains documents relating to Blue Earth County school districts, primarily consisting of both communities and rural one-room schools. Materials include school censuses, annual reports, and district maps. The collection ranges in dates from 1918 to 1969. The collection is organized by date and then within each folder chronologically by school district number.
