Biographical / Historical
Florence Cobb was a faculty member at Mankato State College, later Mankato State University, for twenty years (1968-1988). She was the first Black female professor at the college and the founder of the dance program. She carried a passion for the arts and diversity of culture; two things to which her students gained exposure. She advised and choreographed Orchesis, the university’s preexisting dance group, led and organized dance trips in Europe, and advocated for and was integral in the implementation of the Dance Education Minor in 1976.
