Abstract

The Prudence J. Gushwa collection consists of an audio CD, Gushwa’s resume, and a biographical form and interview outline of an oral history interview conducted between Gushwa and Daardi Sizemore in August 2009. In this interview, Gushwa talks about her family, her experience as a student at Mankato State University, and her experience as an Educational Leadership Department faculty member at Minnesota State University.

This oral history interview was conducted as part of the Tell Your MSU Story Oral History Project conducted by the Southern Minnesota Historical Center at Minnesota State University, Mankato.

Biographical / Historical

Prudence Joanne Gushwa was born February 9, 1941 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Her family moved to Zumbrota where they lived until she graduated from high school. She attended the University of Hawaii for her undergraduate degree then pursued her master’s degree in Political Science and a specialist degree in Educational Administration at Mankato State University. She went on to pursue a Ph.D. at the University of Minnesota in Educational Administration. Gushwa spent a number of years working in school districts and universities and in the mid-1990s moved to Mankato where she accepted a faculty position in the Educational Leadership Department. During her tenure as an Educational Leadership Department faculty member she taught technical educational administration courses.
