Scope and Contents

This collection contains items that pertain to the family of Luella Lane Griffith. Included in the collection are photocopies of Lane family genealogy, photographs of the Janesville, Minnesota High School graduating classes of 1910 and 1912, a plat map of the Smith's Mill cemetery, an 1893 survey of the Smith's Mill cemetery, and a plat map of Smith's Mill. Also included in the collection are Luella Lane Griffith's father's records. He was a Smith's Mill storekeeper and justice of the peace, and the records from his store and the records of his time as justice of the peace are also included. Two "friendship books" are also a part of the collection. The two in the collection belonged to Hattie Vaughn and Lincoln Lane, Luella Lane Griffith's parents. These books contain autographs and inspirational sayings from the childhood fiiends of the two.

Biographical / Historical

Alice Luella Lane Griffith was bom on March 13, 1892, in Smith's Mill, Minnesota. Her parents were Abraham Lincoln Lane (1861 - 1935) and Hattie Vaughn Lane (1867 - 1923). Her father was a storekeeper and justice of the peace in Smith's Mill, Waseca County. Luella married Earl Meredith GrifFith in 1923. Earl Griffith died in 1953. Luella Lane Griffith died in 1982.

Abstract

This collection consists of items pertaining to the family of Luella Lane Griffith, of Smith's Mill, Minnesota. Included in the collection are the records of her father's general store and the records that he kept as the justice of the peace. Also included is a photocopy of Lane family genealogical information dating from 1820 until 1974. The "friendship books" of both of Luella Lane Griffith's parents are also part of the collection.
