Scope and Contents

This collection consists of items relating to Paul Robert Hadley, currently of Mankato, Minnesota. The collection contains articles that Hadley wrote about boating topics, and the correspondence generated by these articles. Also included are articles that Hadley wrote for business publications throughout the 1970s. Hadley's speeches, some biographical information about Hadley, and a copy of Hadley's masters' thesis, "What Have Been the Results and What are the Likely Results of a Community Development Effort Modeled on the U.S. Chamber's Action Program as Conducted by a Local Chamber" are also included. The materials in this collection originate from 1972 to 1977.

Biographical / Historical

Paul Hadley was bom in Woodstock, Ontario, Canada on 9 May 1920. He attended Ithaca College, where he graduated after serving in the United States Navy during World War II. He married Alice Churchill on 25 November 1942, and they had four children.

After college graduation, Hadley worked for Churchill Weavers of Berea, Kentucky and established the first Chamber of Commerce in Berea. In 1960, he went to work for the State of Kentucky's Department of Commerce, where he concentrated on industrial development. In 1964 he became Executive Vice President of the Clark County, Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, where he stayed for two years. Always interested and involved in boating, Hadley managed the Sunliner Division (houseboats) for American Commercial Lines from 1965 until 1968.

In Mankato, Hadley has been Vice President and General Manager of Kayot, Inc., Executive Vice President of the Mankato Area Chamber of Commerce from 1970 until 1977, and Vice President for Development for Carlson Craft, Inc., of North Mankato.

Abstract

This collection consists of items pertaining to Paul Robert Hadley, originally from Woodstock, Ontario, but currently living in Mankato, Minnesota. Hadley was a successful businessman and avid boater, and the collection reflects his interests in both. Included in the collection are articles written by Hadley for Family Houseboating and Motorboat magazines, and the correspondence he wrote and received about these articles. Also included are articles that Hadley wrote for various business and industry publications. The thesis that Hadley wrote to complete his course at Notre Dame University, "What Have Been the Results and What Are the Likely Results of a Community Development Effort, Modeled on the U.S. Chamber's Action Program, As Conducted by a Local Chamber", is also included. Biographical information, speeches, and typescripts of articles are also part of the collection.
