Scope and Contents

This collection consists of items pertaining to Eda Lien Peterson, of rural Faribault County, Minnesota. Included in the collection are photocopies of 16 pages of reminiscences of Eda Lien Peterson, a book written in Norwegian that Peterson received as a childhood gift from her schoolteacher, cards that she received as gifts from teachers at the Lien School, and a photograph of the Lien School dated 1896. The recording and transcript of an oral history interview conducted with Ms. Peterson in 1976 is also part of the collection. The audiocassette tape and its CD duplicate of the interview are housed separately. Ms. Peterson's 1911 graduation certificate from the State Normal School at Mankato is housed in an oversized folder, separate from the rest of the collection.

Biographical / Historical

Eda Lien was bom in March 1892, in Faribault County, Minnesota. Her grandfather was one of five brothers who came from Norway and took land claims, all in the same area of Delavan Township. Her parents were Jones B. Lien and Gurina Hansen. The Lien school (District #11) was located on the comer of the land claim where Eda grew up, about one mile north of Lura Lake Lutheran Church, five miles from Delavan.

Eda came to Mankato to attend the State Normal School, and graduated in 1911. She taught school, and in 1919 married Oliver Erik Peterson of Washington County, Minnesota. Oliver Peterson died in 1943. Eda Lien Peterson died in October of 1984.

Abstract

This collection consists of items that belonged to or related to Eda Lien Peterson, of rural Faribault County, Miimesota. Included in the collection are photocopies of handwritten reminiscences written by Mrs. Peterson, a photograph of schoolchildren at the Lien School, which is in rural Faribault County, a book that belonged to Mrs. Peterson, and cards that she received as gifts. A recording and transcript of an oral history interview conducted in 1976 with Mrs. Peterson are also included. Her graduation certificate, from the State Normal School at Mankato, is also part of the collection. It is housed separately from the rest of the collection due to its size.
