Abstract
The William Dodsworth Willard reminiscences concern the Willard family, frontier life in southern Minnesota, and the early years of Mankato, Minnesota. The memoir includes a brief family history as well as details concerning his life. Willard concluded his musings by describing his participation in business and community endeavors within Mankato.

Biographical / Historical
Willard was born on 17 December 1867 in Mankato, Minnesota to John Addison Willard and Anna Sibley. He graduated from Mankato High School in 1884 and then received a B.A. degree from the University of Minnesota in 1888.
On 24 June 1890, Willard married Abigail Robbins at Chester, Vermont. Following their marriage, Willard participated in his father’s business dealings with the Mankato Linseed Mill, Mankato Knitting Mills, and the Willard Cattle Company in Montana. Willard became a cashier for the First National Bank in Mankato in 1901, and in 1924, the bank’s board appointed him vice-president. He held the position until 1940. Besides business ventures, Willard took an active role in community and religious organizations. He participated in Kiwanis, YMCA, the Chamber of Commerce, and the First Presbyterian Church of Mankato.
Willard died on 8 May 1952 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania while visiting, his son, Dr. John Willard.
