Abstract

This collection consists of a paper written by Mrs. Minnie Scherer, of Lake Crystal, about the history of Mankato. The paper is a combination of personal reminiscences and research done at the Blue Earth County Historical Society and in local newspapers. It discusses the history of Mankato from 1852 until about 1905. This paper was the basis of several speeches given by Mrs. Scherer to local women's organizations.

Biographical / Historical

Wilamine Hanson Scherer was bom in Lake Crystal, Minnesota on December 9, 1890. She attended school in Lake Crystal and Mankato, and graduated from Mankato Normal School in 1908. She taught in Nebraska, 1909 - 1914, and ran the post office in Lake Crystal until 1916. She married Waldemar Scherer (1889 - 1970) in 1916 and lived in Mankato. The Scherers had five children. Minnie Scherer died in 1983.
