Tri-Sigma Sorority. Collection, 1989-2010.
Scope and Contents
The Tri-Sigma Collection contains scrapbooks that document the sorority’s history at Minnesota State University, Mankato. The collection contains only one series and is arranged in alphabetical order. These scrapbooks offer a look into one of the largest sororities on the Minnesota State University, Mankato campus. It should be noted that in several of the scrapbooks there are several girls that have their faces covered. This seems to be a common occurrence and has been seen in their scrapbooks online, as well as in other chapters’ scrapbooks online.

Biographical / Historical
The Tri-Sigma sorority began April 20, 1898 in Farmville, Virginia with eight women. Today the sorority has chapters throughout the country and a membership over 100,000. The national headquarters is located in Woodstock, Virginia. Minnesota State University, Mankato got their chapter on May 5, 1990 and it continues to this day. Currently it is one of four sororities recognized by the university, and is the largest of the four. The Mankato chapter is known as Epsilon RHO. The local chapter of the Tri-Sigma sorority places its members into families, known as bunnies, pandas, lions, teddies, and koalas. Each girl in the sorority has a big and a little sister. The big sisters are supposed to mentor the little sister, which they are assigned by the activity of yarning. Yarning is one of the biggest events of the year for the sorority. Some of the other big events and days for the sorority throughout the year are bid day, homecoming, and their numerous trips and charity days. Today the Mankato chapter of Tri-Sigma continues to be an active part in the community and at the university.
