This collection consists of 35 small volumes originally belonging to the Matt J. Graif Clothing store in Mankato, Minnesota. Matt J. Graif Clothing is a men’s store, and the volumes contain the names and addresses of those who purchased suits there, and the prices of the items. These records were kept for reference purposes should a customer have a complaint about the purchase. The volumes run from 1925 until 1960, with the records from 1932 missing.

Matt J. Graif Clothing, a store for men in Mankato, Minnesota, was founded in 1924. It has been at several locations on Front Street in downtown Mankato. As of 2025 it is still in operation, as Graif Clothing, at 900 North Riverfront Drive in downtown Mankato along with a location in Owatonna.
