Abstract
This collection consists of papers belonging to Mr. William Havemeier, a Minnesota State Representative from Brown County. The collection is mostly his legislative correspondence. The topics covered in these letters include farm issues, taxation, and old age benefits. Havemeier was also a member of an organization called the American War Dads. This group was an organization of fathers whose sons had fought in World War II. The stated goal was to defend the American way of living and the American method of government. Correspondence and printed materials relating to this organization, and Havemeier’s involvement in it, are also included. Also included in the collection are some miscellaneous papers belonging to Havemeier. These papers include campaign ads and materials, along with receipts and pamphlets about issues encountered by Havemeier.

Biographical / Historical
William Havemeier was born on September 29, 1894, in New Ulm, Minnesota. He was a farmer in Brown County, Minnesota most of his life. Havemeier served as a state legislator from Brown County from 1934 – 1938, and ran unsuccessfully for office again in 1958. He was active in farmers’ associations, senior citizens’ organizations, and served as the president of the Minnesota State Association, American War Dads in 1962. Havemeier died in New Ulm in March of 1976.
