Biographical / Historical
George A. Gregerson was bom in Laurvig, Norway in 1845. When he was nine years old
his family emigrated and located in Walworth County, Wisconsin. His father and mother
died the same month, leaving four children, of whom George was the youngest.
In 1861, he moved to Rochester, Minnesota, but after two years, he retumed to Wisconsin
to learn the harness trade. He then retumed to Rochester and commenced business.
Gregerson soon carried a large stock and employed a large force of men. Part of the
reason for his success was his investing ability. Gregerson was the inventor of a patent
blinder for bridles (1880), neck-yoke ends (1883), and a machine for braiding whips.
These articles were reportedly widely sold and brought him money. He died on 13
October 1914 at the Olmstead County Hospital.
Gregerson married Anna M. Johnson, a native of Norway, in 1868. They had five
children: Frederic O., Amelia M., Lulu E., Flora A., and Lawrence E. There are a few
items pertaining to Frederic in the in the Gregerson Papers. Frederic moved to Fargo,
North Dakota sometime around 1913, raised a family and died there on 27 January 1939.
