Broughten, Gene, 1931-. Oral History Interview, 2008
Abstract
The Gene Broughten collection consists of an audio recording, biographical form, and transcript of an oral history interview conducted between Broughten and Mark Sheehy in May 2008. Broughten taught at Wilson Campus School from 1961-1977. In this interview, Broughten talks about his time at Wilson Campus School, the changes that happened in 1968, and what he did after Wilson closed.
This oral history interview was conducted as part of the Wilson Campus School Oral History Project conducted by the Southern Minnesota Historical Center at Minnesota State University, Mankato.

Biographical / Historical
Gene Broughten was born May 17, 1931 in Faribault, Minnesota. He attended many schools before graduating from Mankato High School in 1949. Broughten began working at a bank in Mankato before he joined the Army and was stationed in Germany. When Broughten came home, he attended Mankato State Teachers College for his Bachelors in Music Education. Broughten began working at a bank in Mankato before going back to school for his masters in Music Education. It was during this time that Broughten began working at Wilson Campus School. Upon finishing his masters, Broughten began working full time at Wilson until it closed in 1977. After Wilson Campus School closed, Broughten went to work at Mankato State University in the College of Arts and Humanities as a program coordinator. Broughten retired in 1995.
