Biographical / Historical
The Mankato Symphony Guild was established in March 1965, for the purpose of increasing membership and attendance at Mankato Symphony Orchestra concerts, and to assist in promoting orchestra music in Mankato. The Mankato Symphony Guild assisted with ticket sales for concerts, held receptions and dinners for the orchestra and guests, and promoted attendance at Symphony events.
The Music Appreciation at the Elementary Level (MAESL) program was developed to increase interest in symphony music in elementary schools. Under this program, high school and college musicians would perform for grade school classrooms through the cooperation of music teachers and volunteer members of the guild. The MAESL program received a national Citation of Merit from the American Symphony Orchestra League in 1973 for originality and effectiveness in stimulating interest in instrumental music through a volunteer group.
