Kroehler, Franklin P., 1897 - 1974. Papers, 1954-1975
Scope and Contents
This collection relates to Franklin Kroehler, Minnesota State Senator from Sibley County from 1954 until 1966. The collection includes both published and original copies of his "Legislative Comments" newspaper article, letters to the editor, his "Report by Your Senator" newspaper column, and his speeches.
The "Legislative Comments" articles deal with issues that were most important to the people of Sibley County - agricultural issues, education, and the daylight savings time debate. This collection of clippings is incomplete.
A large portion of the collection is devoted to his personal correspondence, including letters written to and by Kroehler. Some portions of his correspondence deal with legislative duties, including the 1959 debate over daylight savings time in Minnesota, the state withholding tax, the state sales tax, and bussing of private school students. Included in the correspondence are letters from U.S. Senators Eugene McCarthy and Hubert H. Humphrey; U.S. Representatives Archer Nelson and Albert Quie, and Governor Elmer L. Anderson.
Another part of the collection is photographs of Kroehler, including a photo of him and Hubert H. Humphrey, which was signed by Humphrey.
The collection also contains speeches given by others, and newspaper articles that he found interesting, certificates and awards, campaign materials, and articles written about him.
