Abstract

The Raymond (Ray) M. Krause collection contains an audiocassette tape, a CD duplicate of the audiocassette, and a transcript of an oral history interview conducted between Betty Cords and Krause in the spring of 1975. In the interview, Krause discussed his career as a musician in southern Minnesota and northern Iowa. He explained how he learned to play musical instruments around eight or nine years old and his jobs working in the pit orchestra at the Grand Theater in Mankato, and managing a tire shop. In addition, Krause briefly discussed his occupation as a photographer.

Biographical / Historical

Raymond (Ray) M. Krause was bom in Greenland, Wisconsin on 27 June 1903. He and his parents moved to Sherburn, Minnesota and from Sherbum to Mankato in 1913. During his adulthood, he supported himself and his family by working as a photographer and musician. Krause married Maybelle Olson on 18 August 1928, and eventually, the couple had two daughters. Krause died in 1994.
