Abstract

The Helen M. Duncan collection consists of an audiocassette tape, a CD duplicate of the audiocassette, and transcript of an oral history interview conducted between Duncan and Uchenna Okafor during the fall of 1989. Duncan began her career as an educator in a country school in Redwood County, then was a tutor in southern Iowa, and eventually became a faculty member in the Sociology Department at Mankato State Teachers College in 1954. In the interview, Duncan discussed the areas of change and continuity that occurred during her career between 1957 and 1989. She briefly mentioned the gradual integration of Mankato State Teachers College, but she focused more specifically on her experiences working in an institution of higher education.

This oral history interview was conducted as a requirement for the graduate level Educational Foundations course entitled History of Education in American Culture at Mankato State University in Mankato, Minnesota.
