Gail, Emma (Emily). Journal, May 1855 - February 1881.
Abstract
The Emma Gail collection contains a typed copy of a journal written during the Gail family's move from Waupan, Wisconsin to Mankato, Minnesota in 1855. The first section of the journal contains Gail's accounts concerning the family's trip to Mankato. The second half of the collection contains her description of Mankato and her life in 1881. By this time, she had married Benjamin T. Town in 1860, and by 1874, the couple were raising three sons: Benjamin, Warren, and Ray. The journal is not complete and there are some discrepancies in dates. Additionally, a map of the family's journey is included.
