 Collection — Folder: 1
Identifier: SMHC Collection 1507

Abstract

The Catherine Josephine Boothroyd collection consists of an audiocassette and transcript of an oral history interview conducted between Boothroyd and Lauren Willoughby during November 1985. In the interview, Boothroyd, a retired teacher, principal, and superintendent, discussed her experiences between 1926 and 1946. Boothroyd responded to the interviewer’s questions by correlating her experiences with education during the 1980s. Boothroyd believed that the job of teaching remained relatively constant but that teacher education programs had declined. As a result, she thought tax money should be spent on attracting and training teachers of quality rather than buying more items for use in the state’s schools.

This oral history interview was conducted as a requirement for a course entitled History of Education in American Culture at Mankato State University in Mankato, Minnesota.
