 Collection — Folder: 1
Identifier: SMHC Collection 1502

Abstract

The Patrick Duenwald collection consists of an audiocassette and transcript of an oral history interview conducted between Duenwald and Maureen Holicky during September 1983. In the interview, Duenwald discussed his experiences growing up in Potter County South Dakota and his memories of attending Hoven High School in Hoven, South Dakota between 1963 and 1967. He talked about student behavior, sports, extra curricular activities, and the conservative politics of county residents and their animosity towards more liberal ideas. Moreover, Duenwald discussed the Vietnam War and the reactions of students, community members, and his family regarding the conflict, and the relationships and interactions between Protestant and Catholic families and whether their students attended school in Hoven or Gettysburg, South Dakota, the two towns in Potter County with high schools.

This oral history interview was conducted as a requirement for a course entitled History of Education in American Culture at Mankato State University in Mankato, Minnesota.
