Abstract

The Lee collection consists of a VHS videocassette, a brief biographical form from, and a news clipping from an oral history interview conducted between Lee and James Kuhlmann in 2004. In this interview, Lee talks about his time in the Army during World War II as part of the 109th Engineering Battalion. Lee talks about entering the service, his time stationed in Ireland, his time as a prisoner of war, and life after the service.

This oral history interview was conducted as part of the South Central Minnesota Veterans History Project conducted by the Southern Minnesota Historical Center at Minnesota State University, Mankato.

Biographical / Historical

Royal Lee was born on August 28, 1916 in Madison, South Dakota. He served as a combat engineer during World War II. His highest rank in the Army was a Captain. Lee served from 1941 through 1946. His served in Britain and in the United States. He was also a Prisoner of War. At the time of the interview Lee lived in Mankato, MN.
