 Collection — Folder: 1
Identifier: SMHC Collection 1496

Abstract

The Timothy Johnson collection consists of an audiocassette and transcript of an oral history interview conducted between Johnson and Melanie Payne during the autumn of 1985. In the interview, Johnson, a physical education teacher at Mankato East High School in Mankato, Minnesota, discussed his experiences and attitudes concerning physical education and the educational system in general between 1972 and 1985. Furthermore, he talked about the expectations placed upon him by administrators, organizations, other teachers, and staff along with the demands of students, parents, and the Mankato community. As a result of balancing the diverse responsibilities of public education, Johnson mentioned the importance of reducing teacher stress.

This oral history interview was conducted as a requirement for a course entitled History of Education in American Culture at Mankato State University in Mankato, Minnesota.
