Palmer, Terry, 1948-. Oral History Interview and Collection, 1968-2004.
Abstract
The Palmer collection consists of an audiocassette and transcript of an oral history interview conducted between Palmer and Daardi Sizemore in 2004. In this interview, Palmer talks about his service in the United States Navy during Vietnam. Palmer also talks about his service in the Tonkin Gulf, where he served three tours of duty. The collection contains a serviceman’s newsletter from Mankato, Minnesota as well as newsletters and other miscellaneous information about the USS Ranger CVA-61 where Palmer served. Photos of Palmer during his time in service and on the day of the interview are also included.
This oral history interview was conducted as part of the South Central Minnesota Veterans History Project conducted by the Southern Minnesota Historical Center at Minnesota State University, Mankato.

Biographical / Historical
Terry Palmer was born in Minneapolis, MN on September 16, 1948. In December of 1967 entered the United States Navy where he served until 1972. His Vietnam War era service included three tours of duty in the Tonkin Gulf. He achieved the rank of ABH-3 (E-4). Palmer received many medals including the Navy Unit Commendation-Meritorious Unit Commendation (twice), Navy Good Conduct, Naval Reserve Meritorious Service medal (3 times), and the Vietnam Service Medal (13 times). Palmer served as a naval reservist from 1976-1995. Today Palmer lives in St. Peter, MN.
