Boeck, Glenn M., 1919-2012. Oral History Interview, 2007
Abstract
The Glenn M. Boeck collection consists of an audiocassette tape, a CD duplicate of the
audiocassette, and a biographical form and interview outline of an oral history interview
conducted between Boeck and Leslie Peterson in July 2007. Boeck attended Mankato
State Teachers College 1937-1946. In this interview, Boeck talks about his family, his
time as a student at Mankato State Teachers College, and his experiences teaching and
helping with optometry practices.
This oral history interview was conducted as part of the Tell Your MSU Story Oral
History Project conducted by the Southern Minnesota Historical Center at Minnesota
State University, Mankato.

Biographical / Historical
Glenn M. Boeck was bom March 19, 1919. He was the first of nine children to pursue higher education. He began his college education at Mankato State Teachers College in 1937 and graduated in 1946 with a bachelor's degree in education. During this time he worked for Coach Blakeslee, held odd jobs, and was in the school band. He joined the U.S. Army National Guard and was present in Oahu, Hawaii when the attack on Pearl Harbor began. He married Irene, a music student at Mankato State Teachers College, in 1943 in San Antonio. Boeck and his family moved to Chicago where he attended optometry school. He ran an optometry practice in Olivia, Minnesota for a year before he was called in for the Korean War. In 1958 Boeck moved to California where his wife taught for several years. Boeck also attended San Diego State University where he received a master's degree. For almost 20 summers Boeck and his family would drive back and forth to Minnesota where he helped out optometry practices. During the time of this interview Boeck was in Mankato for a family reunion.
