Abstract

The Marion Karr collection consists of an audiocassette and transcript of an oral history interview conducted between Karr and Tom Marks during the autumn of 1985. In the interview, Karr, a mathematics instructor at Mankato East High School and formerly an educator in the Iowa towns of Kamrar, Strawberry Point, and Hampton, discussed the areas of change and continuity in the role of a math teacher between 1951 and 1985. Karr mentioned the purpose of math education, school administrations, teacher organizations, fellow teachers, support staff, and students. He concluded the interview by commenting on the role of sports in school.

This oral history interview was conducted as a requirement for a course entitled History of Education in American Culture at Mankato State University in Mankato, Minnesota.
