Scope and Contents

This collection is made up of items relating to the Good Thunder Herald and the history of Good Thunder, Minnesota. Included in the collection are photographs of Good Thunder, dated 1888 and undated, and a photograph of the Good Thunder Herald office, including the editor C. E. Young and Mrs. F. H. Griffin. Also included is a series of newspaper clippings from Minnesota newspapers relating to Good Thunder and its surrounding area. Historical articles about Good Thunder in this collection are “Historical sketch of Good Thunder”, “First Impressions of Good Thunder”, “In Search of My Forefathers”, and “Good Thunder, Blue Earth County, Minnesota”. A souvenir booklet entitled “Description of Good Thunder”, featuring photographs of the city is also included.

Biographical / Historical

Sidney Kienitz was born in Cambridge, Minnesota on October 2, 1899. He attended Hamline University in St. Paul, and Northwest College of Law in Minneapolis. Throughout his life, he engaged in various businesses across the United States. In 1946, Kienitz moved to Good Thunder, Minnesota, where he was publisher of the Good Thunder Herald until his retirement in 1971. Kienitz died in February 1975.

This collection consists of item once belonging to Sidney Kienitz, of Good Thunder, Minnesota. Kienitz was the publisher of the Herald from 1946 – 1971, and a long time resident of the Good Thunder area. The collection contains items relating to the publishing of the Good Thunder Herald and to the history of Good Thunder. The collection contains photographs, newspaper clippings, and published and unpublished articles about Good Thunder.
