Abstract

The Tacheny collection consists of an audiocassette and transcript of an oral history interview conducted between Tacheny and Grace Mlady in 2004. In this interview, Tacheny talks about her service in the United States Army Nurse Corp during World War II. Christine served in France and Germany during the War. She was in the war from 1944 until 1946. The interview also includes descriptions of her life in Mankato, Minnesota following the war, including her work as a nurse. Also in the collection are copies of photographs from her time in service as well as a brief timeline of her time in service.

This oral history interview was conducted as part of the South Central Minnesota Veterans History Project conducted by the Southern Minnesota Historical Center at Minnesota State University, Mankato.

Biographical / Historical

Christine G. (nee Schneider) Tacheny was born in San Juan, Texas on June 30, 1920. Christine served in the United States Army Nurse Corps in the 180 General Hospital during World War II. Christine served in France and Germany. Her highest rank during service was 1st Lieutenant. Christine lived on a farm in rural Mankato, MN.
