Maiden, Cassandra L., 1952-. Oral History Interview and Collection, 1971-2003.
Abstract
This collection consists of an audiocassette tape, CD duplicate of the audiocassette, and transcript of an oral history interview conducted between Cassandra L. Maiden and Daardi Sizemore in October 2003. Maiden enlisted as a Unites States Army WAC during the end of the Vietnam War. She received training as a LPN and served in the medical division. Maiden discusses her training and experiences as a woman in the Army. She also discusses what life was like for a nurse at Fort Riley, Kansas where she served. Maiden served from 1972-1975 and achieved the rank of Specialist 4.
This oral history interview was conducted as part of the South Central Minnesota Veterans History Project conducted by the Southern Minnesota Historical Center at Minnesota State University, Mankato.

Biographical / Historical
Cassandra L. (Craig) Maiden was born in New Castle, Pennsylvania. Maiden enlisted in the Army and was trained as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN.) After her training she was stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas where she worked in the hospital. While in the service, Maiden met her husband and was married. She served from 1972-1975 and achieved the rank of Specialist 4. After leaving the service, she moved to Albert Lea, Minnesota. Maiden has been active in veterans’ organizations including serving as the Commander of the Albert Lea American Legion and organizer for the Women Veterans of Freeborn County. She attended the dedication of the Women Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.
