Mankato Symphony Orchestra Association. Papers, 1950-2019
Abstract
This collection consists of the records of the Mankato Symphony Orchestra. The Orchestra began in 1950, and is currently still functioning as a joint venture of the people of Mankato and Minnesota State University, Mankato. The collection includes meeting minutes, copies of the “Symphony Notes” newsletter, correspondence, financial records, and by-laws of the organization that date from 1959 until 1990. There is also a series of concert programs, beginning in 1965 and ending with the 1990 concert season. There are some omissions from this grouping, and multiple copies of some programs are present.

Biographical / Historical
The Mankato Symphony Orchestra was organized in 1950 with John Dennis as conductor and Guy Flanagan as president. The orchestra was incorporated in 1959, and since then has been a joint venture between Minnesota State University, Mankato and the people of Mankato. A board of directors, which includes community members as well as orchestra members, conducts the business of the orchestra. The orchestra is made up of 65 musicians from the Mankato community, Minnesota State University, Mankato, and the Mankato high schools.

Dr. Herbert Owen donated the original collection in April 1976. Other portions of the collection were donated in 1990 by an anonymous donor.
