Abstract

The Reynold Rehwaldt collection consists of an audiocassette and transcript of an oral history interview conducted between Rehwaldt and Gael Mericle during the autumn of 1983. In the interview, Rehwaldt discussed his experiences serving as the Superintendent of District #77 schools in the Mankato, Minnesota area. Specifically, he talked about his plan to reorganize the district by consolidating the area’s three junior high schools into the Mankato East and Mankato West high schools in an attempt to save the district money. To fulfill his agenda, Rehwaldt formed a district-wide committee composed of a broad array of members from throughout the area. He believed the consolidation of schools could last until the mid-1990s when enrollment was predicted to decline.

This oral history interview was conducted as a requirement for a course entitled History of Education in American Culture at Mankato State University in Mankato, Minnesota.
