Abstract

The David M. Peik collection consists of two audiocassettes and transcript of an oral history interview conducted between Peik and Brian Kramer in 2003. In the interview Peik discusses several aspects of his life, such as his pre-war home life, time in the Navy, and what it was like returning to the United States after being in Vietnam.

This oral history interview was conducted as part of the South Central Minnesota Veterans History Project conducted by the Southern Minnesota Historical Center at Minnesota State University, Mankato. This interview was a component of Honors 450: South Central Minnesota Veterans History Project.

Biographical / Historical

David M. Peik was born and raised in Albert Lea, MN on June 6th, 1943. He attended college at the University of Minnesota for one year before enlisting in the Navy. After basic training, David became a Navy Corpsman and served a term in Vietnam with the 9th Marine Expeditionary Brigade. David has been awarded two Purple Hearts for his actions in Vietnam. After David got out of the Navy, he returned to Minnesota and a nurse working in the nursery. Mr. Peik is now retired and resides in Mankato, MN.
