 Collection — Folder: 1
Identifier: SMHC Collection 1475

Abstract

The Huldah H. Thorstad collection consists of an audiocassette and transcript of an oral history interview conducted between Thorstad and Pam (Tracy) Rexroat during the fall of 1986. Thorstad, who worked as an elementary school teacher between 1923 and 1972 at schools in Lyle, Adams, Blooming Prairie, and St. Paul, Minnesota, discussed her life, her career, her opinions of school administrators, teacher organizations, fellow staff and faculty members, students, and the purposes behind elementary education. Furthermore, Thorstad mentioned her involvement in a St. Paul teachers’ strike during the 1930s. Rexroat conducted two interviews with Thorstad, but the first interview was not transcribed nor was an audiocassette donated. The first interview took place on 18 October 1986 and is referenced during the second interview.

This oral history interview was conducted as a requirement for a course entitled History of American Education at Mankato State University in Mankato, Minnesota.
