Abstract

The Jennifer Needham collection consists of an audiocassette and transcript of an oral history interview conducted between Needham and Kellian Clink in 2002. Needham served in the Army and the Army Reserve. She talks about training camp and her travels around the world while in the service. Needham worked in supplies and achieved the rank of E-4.

This oral history interview was conducted as part of the South Central Minnesota Veterans History Project conducted by the Southern Minnesota Historical Center at Minnesota State University, Mankato.

Biographical / Historical

Jennifer Needham was born in Duluth, Minnesota in 1967. After high school, she attended a Vocational School and received a certificate of Occupation. She moved to Rochester and enlisted into the Army with a friend on the buddy plan. Needham signed up in February if 1987 and a month later was off to Fort McCall, Alabama for boot camp. After boot camp and schooling she moved back to Albert Lea, Minnesota and decided to sign up to go active for 4 years. She was then sent to Hindenburg Concern in Germany. She met her ex-husband there and after 7 months on the “Concern” was married. Needham became pregnant and 2 weeks before having her son got out of the Army on a Medical and moved to New York. Eventually, Needham moved back to Albert Lea and decided to go back to the Reserves from 1992 to 1998. She now lives in Albert Lea, Minnesota with her son.
