Kaufman, Harriet, 1917-2002. Oral History Interview, 2002.
Abstract
The Harriet Kaufman collection consists of an audiocassette and transcript of an oral history interview conducted between Kaufman and Kellian Clink in 2002. Kaufman served as a nurse in the Army during World War II. She talks about her time in the Army, her trip down to the Philippines, and her time serving there. She also talks about the people she met and the wounded soldiers she took care of.
This oral history interview was conducted as part of the South Central Minnesota Veterans History Project conducted by the Southern Minnesota Historical Center at Minnesota State University, Mankato.

Biographical / Historical
Harriet Kaufman was born in1917. She worked as a Registered Nurse in Albert Lea, Minnesota at the Albert Lea Hospital and then in an office for an obstetrician. In March 1940 she enlisted into the Army. She attended basic training in Colorado Springs, Colorado and in early 1945 was sent to the Philippines. She worked on several islands in the Philippines for about 1 ½ years before she came back home. Kaufman achieved the rank of 1st Lieutenant. Harriet Kaufman died in 2002 in Albert Lea, Minnesota.
