Fowler and Pay. Papers, 1887 - 1888
Abstract
This collection consists of items belonging to the business firm of Fowler and Pay. The business was operated by Frank Fowler and Benjamin Franklin Pay, of Mankato. From 1887 until 1889 the company served as a retail outlet for products produced by other local businesses. This collection contains a ledger book from this time period, which includes the financial records from the business. Also included is a deed for land purchased by Fowler and Pay in Mankato, and an undated pamphlet produced by the business. This pamphlet presents the advantages to using the products sold by the Fowler and Pay firm.

Biographical / Historical
Frank Fowler and Benjamin Franklin Pay operated a building material business in Mankato, Minnesota beginning April 1, 1887. For two years, the business operated as a retail outlet for the products of other business. Products sold by Fowler and Pay included brown lime, hydraulic cement, bricks, building supplies, and limestone. In 1889 the business expanded into the manufacturing of building stone and became a major business in the community. Fowler and Pay continued in the lime and stone business in Mankato until the 1940s.
