Abstract

The Ellen D. Harrison collection consists of an audiocassette and transcript of an oral history interview conducted between Harrison and Daardi Sizemore in 2003. It is a short interview with Harrison talking about the Cadet Nurses Corp. and the schooling she had to go through. Harrison joined the Cadet Nurses Corps in 1945, but did not serve in the military.

This oral history interview was conducted as part of the South Central Minnesota Veterans History Project conducted by the Southern Minnesota Historical Center at Minnesota State University, Mankato.

Biographical / Historical

Ellen D. Harrison was born in Emmons, Minnesota in 1927. She grew up in Albert Lea, Minnesota and in 1945 joined the Cadet Nurses Corps. She attended intense summer courses at St. Olaf and then finished her schooling at Fairview School of Nursing in Minneapolis. Harrison joined with the intention of serving in the military but by the time her schooling was done, the war was over. Harrison worked as a nurse for 46 years, married, and lived in Albert Lea, Minnesota until her death in 2016.
