This collection documents the MSU chapter of Phi Delta Kappa from 1986-2003. It contains the official records of the chapter including: minutes, correspondence, and membership information.

The collection is arranged alphabetically. The bulk of the collection is about the chapter itself. It does include some information on members over the years as well as information on the national PDK and a small amount of information on other PDK chapters.

In addition to the records of the chapter, the collection also includes a lighted triangular display and a control box used for initiation ceremonies. The display highlights the tenets of Phi Delta Kappa.

Biographical / Historical

The Minnesota State University, Mankato chapter of Phi Delta Kappa was started March 4, 1961. Phi Delta Kappa is a fraternal organization, open to educators and students to promote the study of education topics and issues, and the national organization was formed in 1906. The organization in Mankato was comprised of educators such as teacher, principals, superintendents, as well as university faculty and instructors from Mankato State University and Gustavus Adolphus College.

The group met approximately once a month to plan the group’s events. Members of the public could attend the programmed events. The group ceased operation in 2003 after participation in the organization declined in the late 1990s.
