Abstract

The Dolores M. Durgin collection consists of an audiocassette and transcript of an oral history interview conducted between Durgin and Daardi Sizemore in 2002. At age 20 Durgin enlisted into the WAVES Navy Air Corp and served during World War II. She traveled around the United States during her 3 years in the service, working as an Aviation Machinist. In her interview she talks about her work, working with the men and how she met her husband in the service. Durgin also describes in detail her photographs that are included in the collection.

This oral history interview was conducted as part of the South Central Minnesota Veterans History Project conducted by the Southern Minnesota Historical Center at Minnesota State University, Mankato.

Biographical / Historical

Dolores M. Durgin was born in Newark, New Jersey in 1922. After being out of school for two years, at the age of 20 Durgin decided she wanted to do something different and enlisted into the Navy Air Corp. She traveled around the United States during her 3 years in the service, working as an Aviation Machinist. While in the service she met a man and fell in love. After she was discharged she came back to Minnesota, where his family was from. A year later they were married. She now lives in Albert Lea, Minnesota.
